Baby Shiva Shankari aged 4, is from K. R. Market and She lived along with her younger, elder sisters and mother in filthy situation. A few people and perambulators expressed serious concern about the safety and security of this family, especially girl children but nobody came forward to help them to improve their life status. The mother Mrs. Manimegala is taking care of her 7 girl children by doing rag picking and the earning is not even sufficient to meet the physical needs of the family. Hence she was not sending the children to the school and unable to take care of their basic rights by providing nutritious food, adequate cloth, health requirements and more over she could not find time to talk to the children and as result they were not imbibed parental love, concern and encouragement. Furthermore, untimely demise of her father worsened their situation into more grim. As result of careless and negligent life at home, the elder sisters started living on the street as per her own wish and will by spending time with peers without any futuristic aim and Manimegala was unable to control them either she was not guided and or supported by any friends or relatives because they claim that she leads life (what they) called “immoral”. A few days later her first child missed from the home and her search went vein but within a week she came to know that her daughter has eloped. All these development made her inconsolable.
An NGO named SPARSHA came to know about her pathetic situation and requested Prajyothi Welfare Centre to take care of the younger child and after direct visit and counseling Shivashankari became a member of PWC.
Shivashankari in Prajyothi Welfare Centre: when Shivashankarireached to the PWC, struggling with multiple health hazardous such as Sever fewer, Cold, Cough and Anemia. She was admitted in the hospital and was given careful treatment by the child specialist, slowly but steadily she recovered.
Life Style: Shivashankari slowly but steadily adjusted with new surroundings and atmosphere by the help of child friendly counseling and loving sisters and staff . She forgets her painful childhood in the street and suffocated slum atmosphere too. Her health status improved considerably. She put up weight, changed dressing pattern, mingled with other children and inmates’ and PWC home became her own home. She started learning English and kannada. Improved her self-confidence, self-esteem, health status, achieved ability to do communicate properly and became self-sufficient to take care of her own daily requirements.
Shivashankari became Sundari: Shivashankari completely looks different now and this change made other inmates to call her “SUNDARI” rather Shivashankari and she enjoyed the calls. Mrs. Manimegala came to the Centre to meet her child and she could not believe her eyes by looking at the palpable change she saw inShivashankari. She was extremely happy and whole heartedly thanked the institution for this humanitarian consideration.
Two More Children: When she returns back to slum, she described these entire incidents to the neighbor Chithra, who is also facing congruently worst situation. She put forward a special request to the PWC and sends her two girl children namely Anushka and Dhanushka.
Conclusion:Sundari-“Shivashankari” is studying in LKG in a reputed English medium school run by Sacred Heart Brothers. She is very good in studies as well as extracurricular activities. She forgot all her painful past instead embraced ray of bright future. PWC is also awfully happy, because her paragon way of life helped to rescue two more children and rehabilitated in the Centre.
