One day Rev. Pastor visited T. Nagamani’s dilapidated house for having a chat with family members and to pray for them in their grievance. As enters the house, he saw two girls are lying on the bear floor like Skelton having breathing system. His heart was filled with empathy and he also sat along with them and took their hands and convincingly told “God the almighty is great and He will be with you, take care of you and all your struggling will vanish and you can lead a normal life”. T. Nagamani and her younger sister looked at him without much hope but they saw the brightness of faith in his eyes. He prayed for their speedy recovery and happy life. He promised them happy days are waiting for you.
As he left their house, he took a strong decision to protect these children’s to overcome the severe clutches what they are undergoing in their day to day life. He contacted Sr. Reneta who was then superior of St. Ann’s Home Madurai and narrated entire story. After patiently hearing the entire story, Sr. Reneta decided to take these children at the center and promised full care to bring them back to their normal life. Sr. Reneta and team visited the T. Nagamanis house and talked with her relatives and as per their request and concern she took her to St. Ann’s Home Madurai along with her 4 years old younger sister. (Later she died due to the ailment.) In the initial stage Nagamani is not even ready to talk with anyone and always wanted to sit and sleep in a corner. The Professional counseling, Regular Medical Care, Nutritional Food, Family atmosphere and more are not yielded any tangible results in the beginning but staff and sisters did not give up and tried their level best to improve her physical and emotional wellbeing. As days passed slowly she started showing some improvement in her health status but her younger sister’s unexpected demise created panic in her life. The Rev. sisters never lost their hope and continued to give more focus on her wellbeing. A few months later she has willingly came forward and shared all her inner pain including untimely demise of her father and mother and how much discrimination she has under gone in her home by own family members, relatives, friends and neighbors. She was lost her hope and happiness for living in the world. The open sharing helped her to realize the harsh reality of life and helped to take strong decision to lead a life which should say and show modal for others especially those who are struggling with HIV/AIDS infected and affected. She was started ART under special care of sisters. 2 years passed and she became fully healthy and as result she started to go to school for continuing her education, mingled with all staff, sisters and fellow beings.
She realized St. Ann’s Care Home is the real Home away from her birth home. She studied well and secured first class in her class 12th exam. Presently she is studying In B. Com with big dream. She made a special request to the Sr. Anith who is the present superior to provide her part time job and looking her interest, sister Anithaoffered her, care takers job in the center hence she is earning while learning. She is leading an exemplary way of life to others and her confidence level is very high.
Conclusion: Nagamani literally proved that HIV/AIDS people can lead normal life. YES! In her on words “HOPE meets Faith.”
